From Mango Studios LDN to the Houses of Parliament!
We don’t get invited to speak in the Houses of Parliament every day!
On Monday 19 October, our Co-Founder Chantelle Lewis joined a panel at the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for T Levels to share what it’s really like to offer T Level placements as a small business to influence policy on T Level placements.
The group brings together MPs and members of the House of Lords to discuss T Levels and how they support young people, employers and the wider education sector. The meeting was chaired by Dr Sam Rushworth, MP for Bishop Auckland.
Alongside Dr Simon Foster, Laboratory Manager at The Sainsbury Laboratory and Jack Chester, Technical Manager at Procter & Chester Measurements, Chantelle talked about what offering industry placements looks like in practice, from the benefits of welcoming young people into a business to the support employers need.
At Mango Studios LDN, we’ve delivered over 100 T Level placements through our Academy. It’s been a joy, although not always without its challenges. We put a lot into making each placement meaningful, giving young people the chance to build skills and confidence through real experience of working in a creative studio.
The placements have benefitted us too - it’s great to have young people bring different ideas and perspectives into the team. It’s also a chance to get to know young people starting out in the industry and build relationships that could continue beyond their placement.
With almost 20,000 students receiving T Level results this year - an increase of over 65% on last year - it’s an important conversation to be part of. We were pleased to be able to share what we’ve learnt from offering placements and hear how other businesses approach them.
A big thank you to the APPG for T Levels for inviting Chantelle to take part and to the other panellists for sharing their experiences.
